It's noon, finished with work and with time to kill

Things are looking up. I Managed to snag some machine time last week when some people canceled their experiments and managed to push my work ahead of schedule. The thing is that the next processing step for me can't be done for another day meaning that I'm done with work... and it hasn't hit noon yet.

The software writing for the new test equipment we received still hasn't been completed. It still has bugs and run damn slow. The company we contracted to put the machine together is way behind schedule on the project. I've already been called in to start helping out with their programming.

The annoying thing is that I've managed to get the machine working 2~3x faster after spending about an hour reworking their code to make it faster... and these guys are charging $20,000 for the control software they are writing for us. I probably get the software done in a week and would exceptionally happy if my boss would pay me even just $10,000. But alas, that isn't how things work around here.

There are huge opportunities for big dollar contracts out here, I really have to figure out how to tap in to these things.

I guess that the nice thing about work is that I have no direct supervision and I have pretty much control over my work schedule-- I do what I want, when I want to. As long as I produce results, nobody complains. The trick is finding ways of getting the work done faster and you don't necessarily have to tell these guys that you've finished in advance.

I personally like reinvesting the time I gain by figuring out how I can get more work done, even faster to make more free time for myself to do what I want. Fully automated machines to do my bidding is a pipe dream. And of course, the only person that should have the skills to program and maintain them is me.

I need to figure out how to get into this business thing. There ought to be great opportunities to be tapped.

Sad, but I just end up with the standard bar pushed higher instead of breathing room... hence why I really independent practice =)

I'm glad you're thinking outside of the box though = come back to Canada!!
